Man admits to dumping porta-potty waste into Camp Pendleton ravine

A Riverside County man admitted in federal court Tuesday to illegally and repeatedly dumping raw sewage on the grounds of Camp Pendleton while employed as a sanitation worker.

In entering his guilty plea in a San Diego courtroom, 44-year-old Victor Amezcua acknowledged that he surreptitiously discharged waste collected from portable outhouses into a ravine in the Camp Horno area of the Marine Corps station on at least four occasions in 2013 and 2014.

Amezcua, then working as a vacuum-truck operator, was supposed to dispose of the sewage in holding tanks, from which it eventually would be pumped into treatment facilities on the base, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Diego.

The Winchester resident faces up to three years in prison and a maximum of $270,100 in fines at his Sept. 28 sentencing, prosecutors said.
