Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is drawing fire from police and citizens around the nation for fueling the Baltimore riots.

At a press conference on Saturday night, Mayor Blake made the comment that is now getting a lot of attention on national media:

“I’ve made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech.

“It’s a very delicate balancing act, because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”

The ‘space to destroy’ comment is being seen as a green light to protesters to loot, burn and riot the city at will. “Let it burn,” seemed to be the message from Baltimore’s own mayor. The city has now officially declared a “state of emergency.”

A former FBI official has now responded to Mayor Blake’s comments, calling them “absurd”:

The comments may go down in the political annals as one of the most notorious of any sitting mayor:

While the city of Baltimore burns, gangmembers attack police officers, and street criminals attack disabled citizens, the peace-loving members of that city need look no further than their own mayor for giving the “thugs,” as she now calls them – ‘space to destroy.’
