Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson rewrites Pledge of Allegiance, sparks outrage from ‘divided’ nation

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson rewrote the Pledge of Allegiance to show the “truth” about the divided nation Thursday, sparking outrage in the Twittersphere and calls for him to “leave the planet.”

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the Divided States of America,” the New York City-reared celebrity astronomer tweeted.

“And to the PACs, for which it stands, one Nation, at odds, divisible, with Liberty and Justice for some.”

The 56-year-old “Cosmos” host, who heads the Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium, had riled up Christians last Christmas when he poked fun at the holiday in a series of controversial tweets.

Tyson, who holds a Ph. D in astrophysics from Columbia University, prompted another storm of social media backlash after posting his version of America’s oath of allegiance.

“Don’t like the pledge of allegiance? Don’t like America? Your free to leave, good riddance, don’t let the door hit you,” angry user @ChrisPaul83 wrote to Tyson.

“Please, find a rocket, get on board, and leave this planet,” @Randy_Shannon said.

“Have your PR firm’s intern’s assistant delete your account,” @seanmdav chimed in.

Tyson’s post was retweeted more than 13,500 times and favorited by more than 16,500 people.

It also gained some support.

“If you pissed off whiny little s–ts on twitter, you probably said something true and smart,” @SapphicPixie wrote.

“You had me at ‘for some,'” @darryn_briggs chimed in.
