Idaho woman used beaded scarf to kill falcon that was hunting a duck: police

An Idaho woman killed a falcon with a beaded scarf in an effort to save a duck the bird was hunting, authorities said.

Patti McDonald, 60, was driving in her jeep on Jan. 7 when she spotted Scott Dinger and his pet falcon Hornet in the process of killing a duck they were huntingreports the Coeur d’alene Press.

The irate McDonald parked her car and tried to rescue the duck. Unable to scare away the falcon she then allegedly used a scarf with beads on it to strike the predator bird.

Dinger told the newspaper Hornet flew away but he found the animal an hour later with a fractured skull and broken leg. The animal did not survive its injuries.

“The woman later stated that she had been very upset about the duck being injured, but felt bad about injuring someone’s pet, because she ‘beat the crap out of it really hard,’” a report with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game regional conservation office stated, according to the newspaper.

She ‘beat the crap out of it really hard.’

McDonald, of Hauser, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of beating or harassing an animal. She faces six months in jail and $5,000 in fines, the newspaper reports.

Her court date is scheduled for later this month. Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh declined to comment on the case to the Daily News.

Dinger, 50, told the newspaper he finds the charge to be “unacceptable” and hopes federal authorities will pursue more stringent charges.
