Veteran charged with 3 crimes after fight over service dog

Wilbert Enriquez has two 2 Purple Heart medals and 12 other service medals from his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now he has three criminal charges pending against him, including one for disorderly conduct and one for assault, after he got into a fight over his service dog, Nala, who was seated beside him in a waiting room at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center..

Enriquez’s wife was also charged with disorderly conduct. She tells FOX 26 News that she tried to interfere with the VA police who she said were unlawfully questioning her husband about his disabilities and his dog, both of which would be a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Dustan Neyland, who represents Enriquez, said the employee, who asked his client to move his dog, was in the wrong.

The VA said Enriquez and his wife were 100 percent to blame for the incident.

Another veteran, who witnessed the incident, tells FOX 26 that he was forced to delete his cell phone video, which he used because he felt the officers crossed the line in their handling of a war hero.

The state court hearing regarding the incident is on Jan. 7, 2015 and the federal court hearing is on Feb. 5.
